Air Products to Supply Malaysian Chip Maker

US industrial gases producer Air Products has signed a long-term contract to build a new state-of-the-art plant to supply an unnamed manufacturer of memory chips on-site in Malaysia’s Prai Industrial Park at Penang.

Specifically, the company will install a proprietary PRISM cryogenic nitrogen generator to produce high purity, reliable and economical on-site gaseous nitrogen, and a significant volume of liquid nitrogen to the new facility.

The gases will be used in the customer’s chip assembly processes and cold testing of the memory products to help improve product quality, productivity, and environmental performance.

By its own account, Air Products has established a leading position in North Malaysia. In Penang, it has installed two advanced air separation units in the Prai park as well as establishing an extensive supply network that expands into the Bukit Minyak Industrial Park and the Batu Kawan Industrial Park.

Malaysia is one of the world’s largest exporters of electrical and electronics (E&E) products. Alex Tan, president of Air Products Southeast Asia, said the company “strives to grow with its customers and fuel the thriving E&E industry through safety, reliability, efficiency and excellent service.”
