ADL and Amyris Extend Production Pact Again

Leon, Spain-based ADL Bionatur Solutions and Amyris of Emeryville, California, USA, have extended an existing production agreement that foresees ADL producing up to five fermented ingredients for Amyris with projected sales of €12 million.

The latest contract extension is the third, following previous ones in June and December 2018, and its terms call for future extensions.

Specialized in research and development of sustainable health and beauty products, services and industrial fermentation production, ADL owns the largest fermentation production plant in southern Europe. As a toll manufacturer of high value-added product developments, it scales up and produces for third parties. The company’s biopharma manufacturing business is complemented by an R&D arm that works to creates a proprietary product pipeline in animal and human health.

As an integrated producer leader of pure, sustainable, fermentation-derived ingredients for the health & clean beauty markets, Amyris applies its bioscience solutions to convert plant sugars into hydrocarbon molecules and produce specialty ingredients and consumer products

Eduardo Alvarez, chief operating Officer of Amyris, said ADL has proven its quality, cost effectiveness and consistency as a production partner in the past two years, enabling his company to meet the growing demand from the cosmetics and sustainable ingredients business for clean fermentation ingredients.

According to Grand View Research, the global fermented ingredients market was valued at around $22 billion in 2018 and is expected to expand at a growth CAGR of 8.5% up to 2025.
