Aceto Boosts Life Sciences with Biotron Buy

US specialty materials manufacturer Aceto has acquired Biotron Laboratories and affiliate Talus Mineral, expanding its nutraceuticals business and strengthening its life sciences footprint. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Based in Salt Lake City, Biotron makes premium specialty minerals, trace elements and other solutions used in nutritional supplements and has proprietary technology for producing mineral chelates. It operates two manufacturing facilities located near its Utah headquarters.

“Biotron is the latest of our recent acquisitions of exceptional life-science specialty manufacturers, and they bring important new capabilities to Aceto,” said CEO Gilles Cotter. “Over four decades they have built a strong reputation in the nutritional supplements industry for their unique mineral chelation process, high-quality trace elements and other specialty ingredients. They are known for their focus on R&D and ability to work with customers on a variety of custom and specialty orders. Biotron is a great addition to our already-substantial nutraceuticals business, with a complementary portfolio of customers.”

This latest deal adds to a string of acquisitions in 2021 and 2020. Aceto announced in January that it had consolidated and integrated the six companies and manufacturing facilities that it acquired in less than 18 months. These included A&C, A&C Bio Buffer, Cascade Chemistry, Finar, Islechem and Syntor Fine Chemicals. Aceto was itself acquired in April 2019 by New York investment group New Mountain Capital.
