Ticona project spearheads Dornan Engineering’s entrée into German market
14.02.2011 -
A contract on behalf of Ticona (part of the global Celanese Corporation) which specializes in solutions that use advanced polymer technology to produce high performance plastic materials and Dornan Engineering, an Irish-headquartered engineering services company has presented the latter (Dornan Engineering) with an opportunity to expand its offering in the German marketplace.
Specializing in mechanical, electrical and instrumentation services to industry, including the hydrocarbons, life sciences (pharmaceutical), energy, data, commercial and manufacturing sectors, Oliver Lonergan, marketing director at the company told us: 'Our solid reputation with multi-nationals at home in Ireland, as well as in the UK and Scandinavia and with Ticona in Germany, has transferred satisfactorily and we are now poised to expand our operations in Germany'.
Addressing its involvement in the on-going installation for Celanese's Tiger Project in Frankfurt Mr. Lonergan said: "We are contracted to provide the electrical, instrumentation and HVAC installation at this relocation project which will see Ticona transfer from its current location near Frankfurt airport to Hoechst Industrial Site which is approx. 10 km away. We are operating closely with Ticona's material scientists, design engineers, technical support experts, account managers and customer service representatives to bring the project to completion in April 2011. An important part of our modus operandi is engaging with professionals from the hinterlands in which we operate, and, to date, we have experienced a professional and co-operative experience with them. The key to our success in Europe is repeat business from clients such as the multi-nationals Eli Lilly, Pfizer, Johnson & Johnson, Abbott, Novartis, Fluor, Mace and several others" Mr. Lonergan said.
A further one billion pound investment by German giant RWE in Pembrokeshire in Wales (working with Alstom Power) has led to a contract worth over €20 million to the company, with 350 professionals deployed there at peak. This major contract, which commenced in June 2010, is due for completion in July 2011. The company is also involved in a Mechanical HVAC contract for Schering Plough in Belgium.
"We have established a strong work base in the Scandinavian market in particular, with contracts worth €15 million completed over the past number of years. These include the Pfizer Strangnas Project where Dornan was one of the contractors whose involvement helped the project win Global Project of the Year within the Skanska Construction Group" Oliver Lonergan stated.
Current contracts in train in Ireland include Phase 1 of a 400,000 sq ft fit-out project from internet giant Google in its Dublin campus and a major manufacturing expansion project for EMC Corporation in Cork and several other smaller projects.
While Dornan continues as a contractor on the largest gas-fired (2.1GW) power station in the UK, the company has recently completed other UK projects including a €7 million contract on a Data Centre for Nationwide Building Society in Newbury and a €7 million installation for GSK (GlaxoSmithKline) in Coleford (Gloucestershire) where Dornan's were responsible for the mechanical, electrical and commissioning of both projects. Dornan also have over €12 million in ongoing projects in the greater London area. The growth of work in this geographical location has prompted the company to open a new 5,000 sq ft office in Central London which opened at the beginning of October 2010.
Dornan's Dusseldorf office is located at Nove-Mesto Platz 3D, D-40721 Hilden Germany.
