Chemistry is ... Wood

When it comes to massive woodworks, carpenters prefer hardwoods because of their advantageous characteristics like longer durability and naturally given stability. Softwoods, on the other hand, are well known for their cheaper manufacturing costs, but also for their lack of strength. Accoya Wood is both stable and durable – even though it’s softwood.

The material is manufactured from New Zealand grown Radiata Pine, which has been chemically modified through a proprietary acetylation process. Accsys Technologies developed the treatment to give the fast-growing timber exceptional dimensional stability and Class I durability. The qualities of this sustainable construction material have been demonstrated in several projects such as buildings, bridges, marinas, benches or this rowing boat.
