Neste, Marubeni and Resonac to Collaborate on Renewable Chemicals in Japan

Neste, Marubeni and Resonac have agreed to cooperate on the production of renewable olefins and derivatives. The cooperation involves Neste RE, a Neste-produced renewable raw material, being used to manufacture products at leading Japanese chemical company Resonac’s Oita Complex in Japan. Marubeni, a major Japanese general trading and investment conglomerate, will coordinate all logistical arrangements from Neste to Resonac, the partners said.

Neste has appointed Heikki Malinen as president and CEO of Neste, effective Nov. 2, 2024, at the latest. He succeeds Matti Lehmus, who decided to leave the company. Malinen is currently a member of Neste’s board of directors, but will step down before taking up his new role.

Finnish refiner Neste and South Korean chemical company Lotte Chemical agreed on a strategic collaboration to replace fossil resources with renewable raw materials in the manufacturing of chemicals and plastics. LyondellBasell Names Peter Vanacker as CEO

Peter Vanacker, currently president and CEO of Finnish refiner Neste, has been tapped to be the new CEO of LyondellBasell (LYB) starting at the latest in June 2022. He will succeed Bhavesh (Bob) Patel, who is leaving the company at the end of 2021 to become chief executive of W. R. Grace from January 2022. Vanacker will also sit on LYB’s board.

US EPA may Regulate Chemical Recycling

The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is said to be considering regulating the increasingly popular practice of chemical recycling. In a notice published in the Federal Register, the environmental watchdog that turned into the opposite during the Trump administration said it wants companies to provide more information on pyrolysis and gasification, with an eye to regulating these processes under the federal Clean Air Act.
