Rio Tinto Completes Acquisition of Arcadium Lithium

Rio Tinto has completed the $6.7 billion acquisition of Arcadium Lithium and is now the parent company of Arcadium Lithium, which will be renamed Rio Tinto Lithium and will also include the Rincon Lithium Project.

Arcadium Lithium Emerges from Livent-Allkem Merger

Arcadium Lithium announced the completion of the all-stock merger of equals between Allkem and Livent. With roughly $1.9 billion of combined total revenue in 2022 and a global team of more than 2,600 employees, the new, combined company is one of the largest integrated producers of lithium chemicals.

Albemarle Makes Final Proposal for the Acquisition of Liontown

Australian lithium miner Liontown announced that it has received a revised conditional and non-binding indicative proposal from Albemarle to acquire all of the ordinary shares outstanding in Liontown for A$3.00 in cash per share via scheme of arrangement. The revised proposal values Liontown at A$6.6 billion ($4.3 billion) on an equity value basis.

IVL Seeks new Battery Partner as Capchem Deal Folds

Thailand’s Indorama Ventures (IVL) says it is “continuing to assess” plans to build and operate a plant for “world-class” lithium-ion battery solvents at one of its petrochemical facilities on the US Gulf Coast, but no longer with Capchem USA, subsidiary of China’s Shenzen-Capchem Technology.

Green Lithium and Trafigura Link for UK Refinery Project

UK lithium processing company Green Lithium has agreed terms with major commodities trader Trafigura to build a commercial lithium refinery. The facility, to be built at an undisclosed location in the UK, will supply high-purity lithium hydroxide to both UK and European markets. Wood will oversee the refinery’s engineering, construction and commissioning.

Australia’s Orocobre and Galaxy Agree Merger

Australian companies Orocobre and Galaxy Resources have agreed to a “merger of equals” that they said would create the world’s fifth-largest manufacturer of lithium chemicals. The deal, valued at A$4 billion, has been unanimously approved by the boards of both companies and is expected to complete by August 2021.
