Germany’s WeylChem Group of Companies (WCGC) is upgrading a multi-purpose plant at its Allessa site in Frankfurt. The company puts the investment sum in the range of high single-digit million euro range.

CEO Uwe Brunk said the upgrade to be completed in the second half of 2021 will keep the halogen exchange (HALEX) technology in Weylchem’s portfolio and fulfill the request of a large number of customers to have it available in Europe.

The investment decision is “a logical step in advancing the ongoing strategic repositioning of the group,” said Brunk.  “After successful restructure of the marketing and sales organization under WeylChem International, it is now the optimum time to continue optimizing the product and technology portfolio,” he added.

The company said the upgrade in Frankfurt will add capacity and advanced flexibility. It will also reduce time to market as well as production costs by using existing equipment from an older plant. Thanks to the employment of the latest modern technologies, management believes the facility will have competitive production costs, even by international comparison.

WCGC is the fine chemicals platform of International Chemicals Investors Group, with nine companies in Europe and North America employing more than 1,380 people. It regards itself as a global leader in custom manufacturing of specialty chemicals, producing a wide range of advanced intermediates and reagents for diverse applications.
