Trinseo, the former Dow Chemical styrenics business, will begin production of ABS resin at its Zhangjiagang, China, site in 2017. The Chinese production will use the US company’s proprietary process technology, which it said yields ABS of superior quality compared to competitive ABS resins currently produced in China and at lower cost.

The company said its Magnum brand ABS delivers greater product stability, which can reduce costs for molding, compounding, extrusion, and thermoforming in numerous applications. Production of ABS in Zhangjiagang reinforces Trinseo’s long-term goal of having local production of its global products for the automotive industry in all major regions, thus supporting the company’s global partnerships with major OEMs, said Dagmar van Heur, vice president, Performance Plastics.

In late September, Trinseo became an independent publicly listed company after private equity firm Bain Capital sold its remaining stake.
