Germany’s Talke has won a contract to build a logistics facility for Unipetrol in Litvinov, Czech Republic, to cater for the additional volumes from the new PE plant being built at the site. The engineering and construction and procurement (EPC) contract is worth 700 million Czech Koruna, or $29 million, and Talke said it is the company’s largest European construction project to date.

The logistics facility, which will handle and package 270,000 t/y of HDPE resin, includes 40 storage silos with a total capacity of 16,000 t as well as equipment for bag filling, pallet packaging and truck loading. Completion is planned for the first quarter of 2018.

French contractor Technip started building the unit, named PE3 and based on technology licensed from Ineos, earlier this month. The investment, estimated at 8.5 billion Czech Koruna, is claimed by Unipetrol to be the biggest investment in the history of the country’s petrochemical industry.
