Dutch tank storage company Standic plans to build a new terminal in Antwerp, Belgium, doubling its existing capacity. The company already operates a storage facility in Dordrecht, the Netherlands.

Standic will spend around €200 million on the terminal, which will be located in the port’s 5th Harbor dock and have an initial capacity of about 95,000 m3 with a potential total capacity of some 230,000 m3. Tank sizes will range from 500 m3 to 3,500 m3 and completion of the first phase is planned for the first quarter of 2021.

“In Antwerp we will be able to further develop in the niche market of more specialized chemicals and serve our customers from all over the world,” commented Ronald Ooms, managing director of Standic’s parent company Hametha Group.

Thanks to the port’s depth, the terminal will be able to receive large chemical tankers. Standic said that as well as accessibility by sea and inland waterway, the location is also very favorable for rail transport.

“The new Standic terminal will further boost the synergy between the various industrial companies in the port, thus helping to make logistic operations and processes even more cost-efficient,” commented William Demoor, director of customer relations at the port. “Furthermore the location is ideal for multimodal access, a key factor for sustainable distribution of chemicals.”

Standic specializes in storing and distributing chemicals, biofuels and lubricants. It offers stainless steel, coated and mild steel tanks as well as services such as heating, mixing and nitrogen blanketing. Its Dordrecht site comprises 163 tanks with a total capacity of 230,500 m3.
