Plaskolite Buys Trinseo’s Mexico Facility

Plaskolite, a US producer of engineering thermoplastics, has agreed to buy a facility in Mexico that specializes in manufacturing cell cast acrylic sheet from Trinseo. The deal, which is expected to close in the next few weeks, includes the land, buildings and equipment – financial terms were not disclosed.

“The acquisition of the Matamoros facility represents a compelling opportunity for Plaskolite to expand its existing North American acrylic sheet business into new technologies and better serve existing customers,” said Thomas Chadwick, principal manufactured products at Pritzker Private Capital, part owner of Plaskolite since December 2018.

The facility, located on an 11-acre site in Matamoros City in Tamaulipas, offers extruded, continuous cast and cell cast acrylic sheet technologies. Plaskolite said the plant complements its existing cell cast operations in Gerona, Spain, and it expects to start shipments from Matamoros in the second half of this year. Cell cast acrylic sheet is used in a range of applications that include display, signage, construction, marine and sanitary products.

In December 2022, Trinseo announced the consolidation of some of its polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) sheet products from the Matamoros site into its continuous sheet manufacturing operations in Florence, Kentucky, USA, as part of the company’s asset restructuring initiatives.
