Oqema Buys Spain’s Tecnufar Iberia

German chemical distributor Oqema has bought Spain’s Tecnufar Iberia, strengthening its presence in the region’s food ingredients and additives market. Tecnufar, which has about 20 employees, is headquartered in Madrid, where it also operates a warehouse along with two others in Barcelona and Valencia.

"Our roots are medium-sized and family-run. Oqema is therefore the best possible partner for us to marry our local roots and spirit with the benefits of an international distribution company,” said Andres Herepey, managing director of Tecnufar Iberia. Herepey will continue his role with the company post Oqema’s acquisition.

Oqema said it will continue to recognize and seize growth opportunities to expand its presence in Europe. Last year, the Liedberg-headquartered group made four acquisitions. In January, it took over Germany’s Claus Nitsche & Sohn and bought a majority share in Austria’s CB Chemie, and in April purchased Spain’s Proquibasa. In August, Oqema acquired Casoria, an Irish chemicals and metals distributor.
