Nuberg Wins Contract for UAE Chlor-alkali Complex

India’s Nuberg Engineering has won a contract worth Rs 1,000 crore (€134 million) to build a chlor-alkali complex for Al Ghaith Industries. The contract is the biggest in Nuberg’s 19-year history and the fourth consecutive project for Al Ghaith.

The $150 million complex at the Khalifa Industrial Zone (Kizad) in Abu Dhabi will be built in two phases. The first phase comprises a 350 t/d caustic soda plant and a 60 t/d hydrogen peroxide plant. A start-up date was not revealed.

Most of the equipment will be built and exported from Nuberg’s manufacturing facility in Jhagadia, near Ankeleshwar in Gujarat.

Once the project is completed, Al Ghaith will be the largest caustic soda producer in the UAE and Nuberg will be the largest engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor in the country’s chlor-alkali industry.

Ali Hamel, chairman of Al Ghaith Industries, commented: “This major project is a leap of growth towards becoming the pivotal catalyst for the chlor-alkali industry in the MENA (Middle East North Africa) region. It will enable us to become the leader in catering to the increased demand for caustic soda in the Middle East and Africa as well as create new market opportunities.”

Nuberg’s first EPC project for Al Ghaith, which will be commissioned in September 2015, comprises a 140 t/d chlor-alkali plant. A second plant with a similar capacity will follow. A third project is for a calcium chloride plant.
