Neoenergia Begins One of the First Green Hydrogen Supply Units in Brazil
Neoenergia began construction of one of the first green hydrogen (H2V) power plants Brazil, located in Taguatinga. The plant will serve as a supply point for light and heavy vehicles, with an investment of more than R$ 30 million (€ 4.7 million).

The project is part of the Research, Development and Innovation (P&DI) Program, regulated by the National Electric Energy Agency (ANEEL), and is scheduled to open in October.
The unit will be powered by a photovoltaic plant and will contribute to the decarbonization of sectors that are difficult to electrify, such as automotive transport. The choice of Taguatinga, close to Brasilia, was strategic: in addition to being a political and economic hub, the region offers visibility and viability for the deployment of an unprecedented infrastructure aimed at mobility with zero CO2 emissions.
“Our commitment is to boost electrification through investments in innovative technologies. Brazil has competitive advantages, such as an abundance of affordable renewable energy, which positions it as a natural leader in the energy transition,” commented Eduardo Capelastegui, CEO of Neoenergia.
The new plant will serve as a hub for knowledge and innovation in green hydrogen, supporting its development as an energy vector. Its inauguration aligns with Brazil’s preparations for COP 30, highlighting Neoenergia’s involvement in climate initiatives. While some industries can be directly electrified, sectors like heavy transport, steel, and chemicals require alternatives such as green hydrogen for decarbonization. Neoenergia’s parent company, Iberdrola, has operated two green hydrogen projects in Spain since 2022, including one focused on urban mobility. The Brazilian project adopts a similar model to Iberdrola’s Barcelona plant but distinguishes itself by providing two-pressure fuel to accommodate a broader range of vehicles, including buses, trucks, and passenger cars.
