US contractor McDermott International has won what it terms a “sizeable” technology contract from Chandra Asri Perkasa (CAP) for the detailed engineering of eight proprietary cracker heaters at the CAP2 ethylene plant in Cilegon, Indonesia. McDermott classifies a sizeable contract as being worth between $1 million and $50 million.

The facility will use Lummus Technology’s Short Residence Time (SRT) pyrolysis heater technology to produce 1.1 million t/y of ethylene and 600,000 t/y of propylene.

The award follows a contract win in April 2018 for the license and basic engineering of the site’s ethylene plant.

Lummus Technology's SRT heaters allow for higher yields and plant reliability while reducing emissions and operating costs,” said Daniel McCarthy, executive vice president of McDermott's Lummus Technology business. "Once complete, this complex will be one of the largest in Indonesia, helping to satisfy the country's growing demand for petrochemical products.”

Separately, the Houston-headquartered contractor has been awarded another “sizeable” contract from Daelim Saudi Arabia for the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) of storage tanks at the Ma’aden ammonia plant in Ras Al-Khair, Saudi Arabia.

Under the fixed lumpsum contract, McDermott will provide EPC services on four ammonia tanks and nine of its CB&I brand storage tanks. McDermott merged with fellow contractor CB&I in May 2018, adding a range of storage systems.

McDermott expects to start work on the project immediately.
