Martin Brudermüller Is new CEFIC President

Martin Brudermüller, CEO of BASF, has been elected president of the European Chemical Industry Council (CEFIC) for a two-year term. In the rotating position, the 59-year-old German national, a native of Stuttgart, succeeds Daniele Ferrari, CEO of Versalis, who has held the position since October 2018.

In addition to heading the BASF board of executive directors since 2018, Brudermüller has been Chief Technology Officer of the Ludwigshafen chemical group – Europe’s and the world’s largest – since 2015.

Announcing the changing of the guard, CEFIC’s director general, Marco Mensink, said that with more than 30 years’ experience in various roles in the chemical industry, Brudermüller “will be able to lead us to deliver on the Green Deal objectives. Additionally, his strong belief in cooperation with stakeholders will help the industry association to continue to act as a dialogue partner with the European institutions and societal actors.”

In his acceptance remark, Brudermüller said, “it is my ambition during my presidency that the European Chemical Industry strikes a Future Chemistry Deal in the framework of the Green Deal – where we deliver technologies and solutions and the political framework enables their economical implementation.”
