US-based specialty chemicals and ingredients distributor Maroon Group has acquired Canadian company Cambrian Solutions in a move it said significantly extends its North American footprint and provides “market-leading distribution capabilities across key end markets in Canada.”

Headquartered in Oakville, Ontario, Cambrian supplies a broad portfolio of specialty ingredients and chemicals to customers in markets for naturals and organics; food; household, industrial and institutional; health ingredients; personal care; petroleum; pulp & paper and industrial.

“This transformational acquisition for our organization aligns with our strategic priorities of targeted aggressive growth and market leadership in strategic end markets,” said Maroon Group CEO Terry Hill.

The distributor has been majority owned by New York-based private equity firm CI Capital Partners since June 2014. Maroon’s management team retained a “significant” stake in the company.

The Ohio-based distributor said it has completed 10 add-on acquisitions and grown its revenue sixfold under CI Capital’s ownership. Most recently, in July this year, it acquired New Hampshire-based Amsyn, which distributes specialty chemicals to the coatings, lubricants, nutraceuticals, pharmaceuticals and electronics markets.

Other acquisitions from 2015 through 2018 include J. Tech Sales, Seidler Chemical, Lincoln Fine Ingredients, Cadence Chemical, U.S. Chemicals, Specialty Premier Products, CNX Distribution and C.B. Becker.
