LyondellBasell Wins Repsol PP Project

LyondellBasell has been selected by Spanish energy and chemicals company Repsol Químic to provide its Spherizone technology for a PP plant to be built in Portugal. The 300,000 t/y plant will be located at Repsol’s existing complex in Sines and is due for startup by 2025.

“Being able to produce added-value polymer grades on a benchmark cost basis is of increasing importance to our licensees, and our Spherizone technology is widely recognized as meeting those industry needs,” said Neil Nadalin, LyondellBasell’s director of licensing.

José Luis Bernal, Repsol Química executive director, added that the plant “will significantly increase our PP production capacity for highly differentiated applications.” As well as the PP plant, Repsol is also planning to build a 300,000 t/y linear PE plant at Sines as part of the €657 million project. The technology licensor for the PE plant has not been disclosed to date.
