LyondellBasell Wins China Polymer Projects
LyondellBasell continues to win more projects in China for its polymer technologies. This time, it has announced two separate contracts for its Spheripol and Spherizone PP and Hostalen PE processes.
Under the first contract, it will supply Spheripol and Spherizone technologies for two PP plants with respective capacities of 400,000 t/y and 200,000 t/y. The facilities are being built for Shandong Chambroad Sinopoly New Materials in Boxing City, Shandong province.
Luan Bo, president of Shandong Chambroad Sinopoly New Materials, commented: “The selection of LyondellBasell’s polypropylene allows us to serve the market place at its best as we will be in a position to deliver cost-effective recognized bulk polymers through the Spheripol technology and to supply differentiated high-margin polymer products through the Spherizone technology, allowing our organization to grow on a solid basis.”
Both plants will commence operations using LyondellBasell’s Avant Ziegler-Natta catalyst.
Under a second contract awarded last month, LyondellBasell will provide its Spherizone PP and Hostalen ACP HDPE technologies for new plants at the Sinopec Zhenhai Refining & Chemical complex in Ningbo, Zhejiang province. Each plant will have a capacity of 300,000 t/y.
The Hostalen plant, using LyondellBasell’s Avant Z501 and Z509-1 catalysts at the start of operations, will produce a full range of multi-modal HDPE products.
Start-up dates for both Chinese projects were not disclosed.
Earlier this year, LyondellBasell announced three other licensing deals in China for its polyolefin technologies. These include providing its Lupotech T process for a 200,000 t/y LDPE and ethylene vinyl acetate plant in Dushanzi for Xinjiang Tianli Gaoxin Petrochemical; a 400,000 t/y Hostalen HDPE plant for Lianyungang Petrochemical at Lianyungang in Jiangsu and Hostalen HDPE technology for three separate plants planned by PetroChina in Korla City, Jieyang City and Yulin City. The former plant will have a capacity of 300,000 t/y while the latter two will each produce 400,000 t/y.
Last month, LyondellBasell also signed a Memorandum of Understanding with China’s Bora Enterprise Group to jointly own and operate a giant cracker and plastics complex.
The 50:50 joint venture at Panjing, China, will build a 1.1 million t/y cracker and downstream plants producing 800,000 t/y PE, 600,000 t/y PP and 350,000 t/y styrene, all based on processes licensed by LyondellBasell.
