China’s Shaanxi Coal Yulin Energy and Chemical has chosen LyondellBasell’s Spherizone and Lupotech T process technologies for PP and LDPE plants being built in the Jingbian Chemical Industrial Park in Yulin City, Shaanxi province. Details on capacities and projected start-up dates were not disclosed.

Spherizone technology enables PP producers to expand their business and capture additional value through product differentiation, said Dan Coombs, executive vice president for global manufacturing, refining, projects and technology at the Houston-headquartered company.

Unlike other PP process technologies, LyondellBasell said Spherizone can produce entirely new families of propylene-based polymers using its unique multi-zone circulating reactor system.

In addition, the Netherlands-based, Texas-managed group noted that Lupotech T has high conversion rates and an effective heat recovery system, which offers fast grade changes and a high onstream factor. “Lupotech T is the clear market leader in high pressure tubular LDPE technology offering low operating and investment costs to our customers,” Coombs commented.

The Yulin plant will be the 14th worldwide to license Spherizone, which has been licensed for more than 4 million t of annual PP capacity since the technology was launched in 2016.
