Henkel Takes 3D Printing Firm Molecule

German chemical and consumer goods company Henkel has acquired US 3D-printing and industrial inkjet company Molecule Corp. for an undisclosed sum.

Headquartered in Concord, California, Molecule provides a variety of products for 3D printing applications, including medical device, aerospace, automotive and various consumer goods as well as industrial inkjet materials.

“Molecule Corp. and Henkel are an excellent fit,” said Philipp Loosen, Henkel’s head of 3D printing. “Molecule’s strong 3D printing and inkjet resin technologies and digital development capabilities perfectly complement and strengthen our materials portfolio and build on our approach to offer a comprehensive range of customized additive manufacturing solutions.”

Michael Todd, head of innovation at Henkel Adhesives Technologies, added that Molecule’s technology and engineering center in California also broadens its global 3D printing footprint, enabling it to support customers in all major world regions.

Henkel said the acquisition is in line with its strategy to strengthen its portfolio through targeted acquisitions.
