DuPont Safety & Construction, part of DowDuPont Specialty Products, is planning to spend more than $400 million to expand capacity for Tyvek nonwoven materials at its plant in Luxembourg.

The project will add a new building and a third operating line at the site with start-up scheduled sometime in 2021. The plant’s capacity was not disclosed.

Rose Lee, president of DuPont Safety & Construction, said global demand for Tyvek continues to grow worldwide in all of its key end-use markets and the expansion plan is a critical step in growing the business and maintaining its leadership position in nonwoven materials.

The company said that industry estimates for potential Tyvek worldwide use amount to several billion dollars. Tyvek, made wholly from high-density polyethylene fibers, has core market segments in building envelope solutions, protective clothing, medical packaging, and graphics and protective packaging.
