Chemistry is ... Freedom of Design and Variety of Shapes
3D printing has long since outgrown its infancy and arrived in industrial applications, but 3D-printed comic figures such as the bright orange Pokémons are still attractive eye-catchers.

Industrial 3D printing (additive manufacturing) is one of the most disruptive technologies with the highest development momentum and is fundamentally transforming material design and processing, even for complex structures. Different printing processes are used depending on the material and application, with polymers such as thermoplastics and elastomers - also bio-based or biodegradable - being used most frequently. They are used in various forms such as filaments, powders and liquid resins. Materials research is driving innovation for demanding industries such as automotive, aerospace, construction, electronics, defense and medical technology. High-performance polymers are increasingly replacing metal in industrial applications. Specific applications include prototypes or spare parts, although these are not limited to industrial applications. "Human spare parts" such as implants, prostheses, skeletal or dental parts are also a growth market.
