US chemicals and plastics producer Celanese is acquiring custom compounder Omni Plastics for an undisclosed sum. The subsidiaries of the Evansville, Indiana-based compounder, including distributor Resinal de Mexico in Mexico City, Mexico, are part of the deal expected to close during the first quarter, following all approvals.

Dallas, Texas-headquartered Celanese said the acquisition "further strengthens" its global asset base by adding compounding capacity in the Americas. It plans to integrate the products and production facilities into its engineered materials business, which formerly traded as Ticona.

The portfolio additions will include a variety of formulations in PA, PP, PC, PBT and ABS for applications in automotive, appliances, office furniture and lawn & garden, along with compounds for pump housings, wheels, handles, mounting brackets, levers and pressure vessels. Other new assets include formulations used in electronic applications and functional compounds with properties such as flame retardant or improved optical clarity.

Several of Omni’s product grades are UL-listed, FDA-compliant, NSF-compliant and made with post-industrial material, Celanese said. They are also qualified with automotive, E&E and other original equipment manufacturers.
