BASF has opened a new plant for construction chemicals in Sri Lanka, its first in the country. The German chemical company said Sri Lanka’s growing construction industry is boosting demand for high-performance concrete admixtures. The plant is located just outside the capital city of Colombo, in the Lindel Estate at Sapugaskande. It has good connections with the road network and is near the harbor, making it easy to receive raw materials as well as deliver to customers across the country, the group said.

Capacity details were not disclosed, but the facility will produce standard and custom-made performance-based construction chemicals under the Master Builders Solutions brand. A testing laboratory is also available to deliver tailor-made formulae. Himanshu Kapadia, vice president, market management, construction chemicals Asia Pacific at BASF, said Asia Pacific is one of the fastest growing markets globally, with South Asia a strategic growth engine.

BASF has been supplying construction chemicals to South Asian markets for more than 20 years. Its other production sites in the region are in India, Bangladesh and Pakistan.
