The new facility will replace the existing production plant at the company’s Ludwigshafen site and is expected to start up in the second half of 2027.

Katja Scharpwinkel, member of BASF’s board of executive directors and director of the Ludwigshafen site, said: “By building advanced production facilities, we are driving the transformation of the site and enhancing our competitiveness in a global market environment. The new plant in Ludwigshafen complements BASF’s recently completed expansion of its sodium methylate production in Guaratinguetá, Brazil, the company said.
