BASF to Expand Additives Plant in China

15.05.2024 - BASF is to invest in the expansion of its advanced additives plant at Nanjing, China. The expansion includes a state-of-the-art production line for the company’s high-performance controlled free radical polymerization (CFRP) dispersants used in the coatings industry. The new line is planned to start up by the end of 2025.

“The new investment in the additives plant in Nanjing will further strengthen BASF’s local production footprint in China, the world’s largest and fastest growing chemical market,” said Jeffrey Lou, president and chairman of BASF Greater China. “Leveraging our local innovation and manufacturing presence, we are excited to meet the increasing needs of our customers in China with more proximity, efficiency, and innovative product portfolio, thus contributing to their competitiveness and sustainable growth,” Lou added.

Sylvain Huguenard, BASF’s vice president, Global Business Management Additives, commented: “Benefits of CFRP technology include strong pigment affinity and excellent flocculation resistance enabled through well-defined polymer structure.”

High-performance additives are widely used across industries such as industrial coatings and automotive OEM coatings. According to BASF, the market is constantly demanding more universal and higher performance dispersants to push the limits of reachable color space with existing pigments.
