Dutch specialties distributor Caldic has acquired Cooperative Purchasers, a leading distributor of food ingredients in the USA. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Based in Vernon, California, Cooperative Purchasers is a large family owned multi-regional distributor with centers located in the west, mid-west, southwest and southeast areas of the US.

Steve Owen, president of Caldic North America, said the acquisition was the perfect next step in its strategy to become a leading North American food ingredients distributor.

Caldic entered the California market in April last year when it opened a warehouse in Bell, Los Angeles, which allowed it to offer just-in-time delivery to West Coast customers. The facility also includes a training room so that the company can demonstrate products and application concepts to its customers.

The acquisition is Caldic’s third this year, following the addition in July of HT Griffin Food Ingredients, a Canadian manufacturer and supplier of food ingredients and blending solutions. In February, Caldic agreed to buy Acatris, another food ingredients supplier that operates in the Netherlands and Belgium.
