SGS Turkey Appointed as Notified Body for the New Machinery Safety Directive 2006/42/EC
26.01.2010 -
The European Commission has appointed SGS Turkey as Machinery Directive Notified Body able to perform Full Quality Compliance Certification under the new Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC. With this appointment, SGS Turkey has become the first and only inspection company in Turkey with Notified Body status under the new Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC.
Since January 1995, manufacturers and importers in the European Union have been required to ensure that their products meet wide-ranging health and safety requirements. The compliance with these directives is generally obtained through the use of independent, third party testing organizations, known as Notified Bodies.
As a Notified Body, SGS Turkey is now in a position to assist machinery manufacturers and importers in demonstrating full compliance with the requirements of the new Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC. SGS Turkey provides the necessary steps for machinery certification and offers a full range of Notified Body Services including Design Verification of industrial machinery, Type-Approval, Inspections, Audits and Testing as well as the set-up and verification of technical files.
The machinery sector is an important part of the engineering industry and in the EU the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC provides the regulatory basis for harmonizing the health and safety requirements for machinery in order to ensure the protection of workers and citizens.
In December 2009, the new Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC came into force and replaced the Machinery Directive 98/37/EC with a number of new standards as construction-site hoists, cartridge-operated fixing and other impact machinery will now be included. The revised Machinery Directive aims to consolidate the achievements of the previous Machinery Directive.
