Leading chemical distributor Brenntag has acquired Cargill’s small pack specialty business in food and pharma grade alcohol, aimed at customers in cosmetics, pharmaceutical and food & beverages sectors in the Netherlands and Belgium.

The Germany-based company said the long-term supply agreement with its US partner strengthens an already successful business relationship. It noted that Cargill’s transfer of the business is in line with its plans to focus its resources on the production and commercialization of ethanol for large scale food and industrial applications.

Karsten Beckmann, member of the Brenntag group managing board, said the takeover of the Cargill small pack business represents a further step in the company’s strategy to expand its portfolio and strengthen its position in the life science business, in particular providing favorable solutions for applications requiring effective disinfection based on environmental friendly biocides.
