Trammo and Proton Partner on Green Ammonia

28.01.2021 - Global commodities trader Trammo and Dutch engineering group Proton Ventures have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to cooperate on green ammonia – or what it termed NFuel – projects.

Under the terms of the MoU, Proton Ventures will build plants to produce ammonia using wind and solar energy, as well as storage facilities and import/export terminals. Trammo will take and market the green ammonia, shipping it to customers around the world using its fleet of specialized refrigerated vessels.

“We believe that this innovative partnership with Proton Ventures will create great synergies between our respective companies, allowing us collectively to service the global decarbonization process while adding new key logistics solutions for many of our partners in the marketplace,” said Christophe Savi, head of Trammo’s ammonia division.

Hans Vrijenhoef, CEO of Proton Ventures, said the company will take the lead to organize, design and execute NFuel projects on behalf of its clients, noting that Trammo’s participation will ensure the required offtake agreements for the projects.

According to a September 2020 study by US-based Research and Markets, the global green ammonia market is forecast to expand at a compound annual growth rate of 52.9% for the period 2019-2027, rising from a value of $7.10 million in 2019 to reach $212.13 million by 2027.

Sone of the key factors driving growth are increasing demand for fertilizers, the need for renewable energy storage and rising concerns about greenhouse emissions.
