Sanner Adds Capacity in Germany, China

01.02.2023 - Sanner, a German manufacturer of pharmaceutical primary packaging and medical technology products, is expanding capacity. The company broke ground in January on a new production site and headquarters in Bensheim, as well as on a second manufacturing facility in Kunshan, China, that is due to start up this summer.

The expansion, said Sanner, will continue to enhance its packaging and desiccant portfolio for the healthcare market, and to increase activities as a device CDMO with more space for the fully automated production and assembly of medical technology, diagnostics and drug delivery solutions.

The German facility will be ready in September 2024, doubling existing capacity and including a new technology and innovation center where customer-specific solutions and prototypes will be developed.

“We want to offer our customers the highest possible flexibility and automation,” said CEO Johannis Willem van Vliet. “With the new production facilities, we have the space to cater to all needs — from desiccant or effervescent packaging to medical technology, diagnostics, mechatronic pharma drug delivery solutions and drug handling.”

Sanner will start production this summer at its new facility in Kunshan, where an existing plant will continue to operate. Sanner said the two sites are in close proximity and will give new and existing customers additional flexibility and increased security of supply.

Altogether, Sanner will be able to increase production capacities in China by around 80%. This will enable us to grow the existing portfolio, while offering significantly more space to execute on our strategic focus as a device CDMO in China,” said CEO Asia-Pacific Ralf Tiemann.

Sanner now intends to expand in North America. Van Vliet commented: “In line with our market growth plans and the demands of our customers, we are looking to acquire a facility for development and production in the States to supply our US customers with high-quality Sanner products and CDMO services even more efficiently.”

As well as Germany and China, the company also has manufacturing facilities in France and Hungary. GHO Capital, a London-based specialist healthcare investment company, took a majority share in Sanner in November 2021.
