BASF has announced it will widen MDI capacity at its Antwerp, Belgium, production site to 650,000 t/y of the starting material for polyurethane foam from 550,000 t/y currently. The additional capacity is expected to ease some of the pressure on the European supply situation.

In November of last year, the Ludwigshafen, Germany-based group said it would double its MDI capacity at its Geismar, Louisiana, US site in increments to around 600,000 t/y from 300,000 t/y currently.
