U.S. EPA Makes Chemical Screening Data Accessible
02.01.2014 -
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has released chemical screening data accessible through its new interactive Chemical Safety for Sustainability (ICSS) Dashboard.
"EPA's use of cost-effective advanced chemical screening techniques has transformed this country's knowledge of the safety of almost 2,000 chemicals currently in use," said Lek Kadelli, acting assistant administrator for the agency's Office of Research and Development.
Under the name ToxCast Data Challenges, the environmental watchdog also has introduced a series of challenges for the U.S. science and technology community to use the data in discovering how to predict potential health threats associated with certain chemicals.
Only a fraction of chemicals used in the U.S. have been adequately assessed for potential risk, the EPA said.
