Agilyx is partnering French engineering firm Technip Energies to scale up the technology. In April 2022, they launched their TruStyrenxy technology that combines Agilyx’s pyrolysis process with Technip Energies’ purification technology.

“I’m delighted that we are partnering with Ineos Styrolution to continue development of the first large-scale TruStyrenyx plant, utilizing some of the private placement funds Agilyx raised in September,” said Tim Stedman, CEO of Agilyx. “We view TruStyrenyx as a game changer in the recycling of polystyrene, enabling an incredibly high purity, circular solution.”

The facility will be capable of processing up to 100 t/d of post-consumer PS when it starts up. The companies have not said when they expect the plant to start operating.  

Agilyx and Ineos Styrolution signed a joint development agreement in September 2017 to develop a chemical recycling route for depolymerizing PS back into styrene monomer. Two years later, the companies announced the project at Channahon, having qualified the post-consumer PS feedstock for the process, as well as the styrene output to Ineos’ specifications.
