Johnson Matthey and 8 Rivers Collaborate on Clean Hydrogen
The companies aim to accelerate the rollout of global projects producing clean fuels, which could include hydrogen, ammonia and sustainable aviation fuels, also incorporating up to nearly 100% carbon capture. 8 Rivers is leading and supporting the deployment of several decarbonization projects in the UK, US and Australasia.
“Hydrogen will play a critical role in helping the world to achieve net zero targets by addressing hard-to-decarbonize sectors, from fertilizer manufacture to global shipping fleets. 8 Rivers has been driving the energy transition for a decade and working together with Johnson Matthey will enable collaboration on future low-emission global hydrogen projects,” said 8 Rivers CEO Cam Hosie.
Johnson Matthey’s CEO Jane Toogood added that the collaboration will help it “further strengthen our leading position in deploying low-emission hydrogen technologies at scale.”
In separate news, SK Group has invested $100 million in 8 Rivers, at the same time forming a joint venture to focus on decarbonizing markets in South Korea and Asia. The joint venture will combine 8 Rivers' technology with SK's regional footprint to deploy clean hydrogen and zero-emissions power projects across major energy centers in Asia-Pacific, a region that 8 Rivers said emits more carbon each year than the rest of the world combined.
"SK looks forward to accelerating the deployment of 8 Rivers' technologies across the global energy market by combining SK's domestic and foreign energy infrastructure, business capabilities, and 8 Rivers' world-class portfolio of clean technologies and projects," said Young Wook Lee, president of SK Inc. materials, the specialty gas and semiconductor materials arm of SK Group.
