Ercros Launches Three-Dimensional Sustainability Strategy

11.02.2021 - Spanish chemical company Ercros has launched a three-year strategic plan to improve its sustainability. The plan, which incorporates 20 projects, is based on three dimensions: diversification, digitalization and decarbonization.

Ercros will invest €69 million in the projects in the period 2021-2025, which will result in €63 million of additional accumulative EBITDA. In the period 2026-2029, the company expects to invest a further €23 million, resulting in another €131 million of accumulative EBITDA.

The diversification plan aims to control and possibly reduce Ercros’ strong cyclical dependence on chlor-alkali manufacturing. It includes four projects that are geared toward enhancing the intermediate chemical and pharmaceutical divisions, along with the water purification segment.

The use of digitalization is intended to make Ercros more competitive by reducing operating costs, increasing production and sales and strengthening customer loyalty. This dimension includes 11 projects to automate data management.

Under its decarbonization plan, the Barcelona-headquartered firm proposes intensifying its efforts to mitigate climate change and will undertake five projects in the areas of energy efficiency, adaptation to climate change, maximizing hydrogen use, circular economy and sustainability mobility.

Ercros said upon completion of its plan in 2025, it hopes to cut the direct CO2 emissions generated by its activities by 39% compared with current levels.
