Swiss construction chemicals company Sika has established two new subsidiaries in Djibouti and Cameroon, taking the total number on the African continent to 18. The company said the East African state of Djibouti is an important location for accessing the neighboring country of Ethiopia, one of the largest in Africa. As well as developing the local market, the subsidiary will supply Ethiopia’s fast-growing construction industry.

In Douala, Cameroon, the new organization will assume responsibility for distributing concrete admixtures and mortar products, continuing to expand Sika’s market share in the country’s flourishing construction sector. Distributors have been selling the Swiss company’s products there for more than a decade.

Sika said the West African country’s building industry is growing strongly from a stimulus of investment in infrastructure and residential construction. Important projects include the expansion of the Kribi seaport in the south, an extension of the rail network, and the construction of stadiums for the African Cup of Nations in 2019.

The company now has a total of 97 national subsidiaries worldwide.
