A new web portal has been launched to outline the strengths and capabilities of UK medicines manufacturing. It was developed by the Knowledge Transfer Network (KTN) on behalf of the Medicines Manufacturing Industry Partnership (MMIP) and explains in one place what resources are available to support businesses involved in producing medicines.

According to the statement, the MMIP had previously discovered there was confusion about UK activity in terms of the current industry base, academic research and support for innovation.

KTN said the platform is the first interactive tool that pulls together innovation efforts, and company base and manufacturing sites for the entire UK medicines sector. The portal highlights key activity in the UK, linking to existing initiatives to give an overview, and also promotes the country’s capabilities both to the community and internationally.

Alison Clough, acting CEO of the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry, said the portal should increase understanding of the UK’s medicines manufacturing capability and expertise. “It will be a helpful source of information for policy makers, pharmaceutical companies and international investors,” she said.
