Union Dispute at Grangemouth Still Has Repercussions

05.02.2014 -

Just as the dust appeared to be settling over the Ineos labor dispute at Grangemouth that made headlines worldwide late last year, UK media have reported that a convenor for the trade union Unite at the Scottish site has been dismissed by the Switzerland-based group.

Reports said Mark Lyon was fired for not stopping the union from commenting on fears of job losses as a result of the dispute.

Unite's Scottish secretary, Pat Rafferty, against whom the group recently dropped a defamation suit, is quoted as saying that despite the withdrawal of the suit, Ineos "at the same time was drafting a letter dismissing a Unite convenor." The group's "rank hypocrisy knows no bounds," he remarked.
Ineos called the latest flap "a confidential issue."
