Dow Chemical said it has named William Weideman as its chief financial officer.

Weideman, 55, had been interim CFO since last November when the former finance chief, Geoffrey Merszei, was appointed president of Dow's operations in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Weideman has worked at Midland, Mich.-based Dow for more than 30 years. He had previously served as Dow's controller, as well as in financial management positions in several of the company's chemical units.

"Bill knows Dow's businesses extremely well, as well as having extensive experience in Dow's downstream market facing businesses," Chief Executive Andrew Liveris said in a statement.

Dow said Weideman's appointment was a unanimous decision by its board of directors.
