ECHA: Lead Registrants

11.11.2009 -

The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) has been made aware that a number of nominated Lead Registrants are holding back from notifying themselves to ECHA as they have concerns about the legal implications of such action. Consequently, they are not able to benefit from the dedicated special service for Lead Registrants that is being provided by ECHA.
ECHA is offering a special service for Lead Registrants, including a Lead Registrant workshop specifically to assist Lead Registrants in their SIEF activities. However, to benefit from the workshop and the special service, Lead Registrants have to identify themselves and to register through the ECHA website.
Notifying ECHA of the fact that a SIEF has agreed on a Lead Registrant is purely voluntary. From ECHA's point of view, such a notification does not have legal implications beyond those already stemming from the Reach Regulation. Contact details in the notifications are used for communication between ECHA and Lead Registrants only. Any information about the existence of a Lead Registrant for a specific substance is made accessible via ECHA's webpage in an anonymous way.
